THE CHALLENGE
The Communities of Practice Team at the World Bank invited us alongside our friends at Loup Design to host a workshop on how to use design thinking for community building. Together we asked; how can we make it easier (and fun!) for community builders to start using human centered design in their practice?
THE BIG IDEA
Let's make design thinking as easy and fun as playing a game.
THE DESIGN PROCESS
We kickstarted the project with a brainstorming meeting with the organizing team to better understand the challenges and obstacles faced by the stakeholders. We then send a brief questionnaire to the attendees to gather data on what they most needed help with and used that information to create a blueprint for the workshop. We decided to use playful materials and language applied to real-life scenarios to introduce design thinking to this group as well as bring in a panel of experts who could inspire the attendees with advice from the field.
THE OUTCOME
By the end of the workshop, the team had used a series of custom made tools like empathy games, maps and activities to guide the community builders in integrating design thinking in their practice.
